One of those Frank Lloyd Wright accents I mentioned last night were what I thought was panel art on the wall of the living room. According to HGTV, they are actually wall sconces.
Below is the overall look of the living room:
The lights make the look a little too 70s feel for me, but I still like the wall sconces.
A closer look at the “panels”:
The wall sconces are custom-made by Vern Yip. Since anything custom-made is way out of my price range (even most of the items on Etsy) I will probably never aquire anything like this, but here is a description of them.
“Vern’s custom-designed wall sconce — a tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Tree of Life art glass skylight designs — adds soft illumination in the gathering space. A mahogany box houses the lighting system and six laser-cut cherry panels that are backed in Plexiglas.”
Here is a close up of the detail
A quick look at the room all lit up:
A little blurb about the room from HGTV:
“When HGTV announced the Chicago location of Urban Oasis 2011, interior designer Vern Yip knew exactly where to look for inspiration. “I immediately thought about Frank Lloyd Wright and the Prairie School of Architecture and Louis Sullivan and the Carson Pirie Scott Building,” he says. “And I thought about all those iconic architectural moments; Frank Lloyd Wright specifically worked in a really warm palette that was inspired by Mother Nature.”
